    About the role |Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga 

    We are currently seeking expressions of interest from experienced and dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientists  specialising in Histology to join our dynamic team at Pathlab Bay of Plenty , located in Tauranga. The positions are full-time permanent (80 hours per fortnight). 


    Reporting to the Site Lead - Histology, you will be practising as a registered Scientist to undertake aspects of diagnostic laboratory work within the Histopathology department.


    Key responsibilities include: 

    • Accessioning, small biopsy dissection, embedding, microtomy immunohistochemistry, section staining, and its associated management and quality, 
    • Ensure prompt and efficient testing and processing of specimens.
    • Maintain laboratory quality assurance and safety standards.
    • Supervise and train junior staff as appropriate and in consultation with the Site Lead.
    • Participation in relevant external quality assurance programmes as required for IANZ registration.

    Working flexibly in reflection of service needs is an integral part of the role - the operating hours of the laboratory are 6pm- 9pm, and working shifts are rostered within these time frames.

    The ideal candidate will have at least one year of hands-on experience in histological techniques, laboratory procedures, and a keen attention to detail in a medical laboratory setting.


     Key requirements:

    • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science and/or equivalent degree/experience.
    • At least one year of experience in a medical laboratory, specializing in histology.
    • Strong knowledge of histological techniques, including tissue preparation, embedding, sectioning, and staining.
    • The ability to work in both a team environment as well as independently to achieve a high standard of output.
    • Enthusiasm for continuous improvement.
    • A good understanding of IANZ requirements.
    • Ability to prioritise workload to meet the needs of the service.
    • Dexterousness, adaptability, and openness to change.
    • Must hold registration with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand and a current annual practicing certificate.
