    About the role |Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga 

    An exciting opportunity is now available for a Qualified Pathologist Assistant or Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Histology team. The position is full-time permanent (80 hours per fortnight), based on the Hospital site in Tauranga.


    You will be working in our cut-up area, using our innovative solutions which include the Cerebro laboratory tracking system. Your duties will include accessioning specimens, preparation (grossing) of large complex specimens as well as routine and urgent histology samples, including stage excisions and biopsies, performing frozen sections, and training of staff (technicians, scientists, and registrars where applicable).


    Working flexibly in reflection of service needs is an integral part of the role - you must be prepared to work rostered duties Monday to Friday between 6am-9pm, on an 8hr work roster.


    About you | He kōrero mōu 

    You are a highly educated allied health professional who fulfills a number of lab-related functions under the supervision of registered pathologist. Your ability to show initiative and work well with others will see you transition seamlessly into our team.


    Our ideal candidate will also have the following:

    • At least 2 years' experience in a histology/medical laboratory with proven large specimen dissection skills. 
    • BSc Biomedical Science or an appropriate transferable Bachelor's degree with knowledge in anatomy and experience in grossing pathology specimens. 
    • American Association of Pathologist's Assistant PA(ASCP) Qualification.
    • IBMS Advanced Specialist Diploma in Specialist Dissection.
    • Registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of NZ and hold a current annual practicing certificate or must be eligible for registration with the Medical Sciences Council.
